Healthy Hearts
Healthy Hearts is a multi-disciplinary program designed to prevent and treat childhood obesity and related illnesses. The program offers culturally sensitive, individualized family support and provides resources for community programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyle changes. It is open to youth between the ages of 2 and 18 who are obese or overweight or normal weight with demonstrated family risk factors for hyperlipidemia, hypertension or diabetes.
The program runs approximately one year, with six visits taking place over the course of six months and two additional visits at month nine and twelve. Patients will see pediatric providers with expertise in childhood obesity and overweight as well as three different subspecialists: certified dietitian, psychologist and exercise physiologist.
Patients must be referred to Healthy Hearts by their pediatrician. Healthy Hearts sees patients in Fairfield, Larkspur, Oakland and Walnut Creek. Most insurance companies, including area medical groups and Medi-Cal, will cover Healthy Hearts visits.
